Arrival — July - August —
So I showed up in Haven, and everything was pretty much gross and broken down, as you'd expect. Cynthia told me that there's no writing or books in Haven, which was kiiiind of a downer, but you work with what you've got, right? Cynthia also let me know that people don't stay dead, which sort of undermines the point of a tactician, you know? Our job is to make sure the other side is deader than dead. I also learned from Lon'qu that the fog made people go crazy, attack each other and try to eat each other! Which...sure is a tone-setter if ever there was one, ha! I'd only been in Haven for two days before one of those crazy things happened again! The fog showed up, locked us out of the apartments, and took away my magic! There wasn't any food either...and everyone was pretty paranoid. We got through it okay, but I don't know what happened to the people who killed other people... Anyway, that's when things really started to get weird. A few weeks later, everything looked new again in Haven. There was writing and everything! The Yao Corporation's logo was everywhere too...which was the first I'd really heard of them, now that I think about it. Of course, things couldn't stay good for long, this being Haven. If I didn't know better, I'd say it looked like an invisible revolution happening; we could hear people, and see the blood, but couldn't see any of the people. And then there was the bombing. Everything crumbled back to the way it was before--the way it is now, I mean.
Sauntering Downwards — September - October —
Then this guy called Jonas contacted us! He told us about how the monsters used to be people like us, and that we needed to retrieve something for him at the bottom of the lake in the Haven. Then the place turned into a maze, if you can believe it (of course you can, it's Haven) and we were stuck wandering awhile. Then things went really wrong. I turned into a monster--except I stayed myself, just serving under Grima, and so did a bunch of other people. It...was pretty awful. Thankfully, Lucina killed me... Oh, and that's when Father showed up, too. I was sort of dead, so I missed the rest, but from what I hear, they found what Jonas needed, but The Haven stayed a maze, and that pyramid head guy was still there too... still, that's a conditional win, right? Things went back to normal for awhile, and then these weird... memories started popping up everywhere. One misstep would send you right into someone's private and traumatizing memories! It kept happening, too, over and over again. Because just a few memories apparently wasn't enough for us to get the hint, or something. Yao needs to calm down. Not long after that, I'm pretty sure Pitch did the nightmares thing with his crazy nightmare steeds, but it didn't really affect me much, so I wasn't paying much attention. Oops!
Everything Goes to Hell — November - December —
This was when everything got reaaaally bad. I was kidnapped with a bunch of people and taken to Dr. Kite. There, we were all tortured one by one for the sake of his experiments... it happened to me too. Needless to say, we weren't doing too great, so I didn't have many tactical plans in my mostly-empty head! Thankfully, that's when we were saved by everyone else! Or a fragment of them, anyway. The rest showed up for the final battle, though, so that's what really matters. Lots of things happened in that battle, but I was a little out of it, so I heard about most of it later. Pascal took out a generator, she said, though what it generated I'm not sure... maybe some sort of revival thing? I do know that once we died after that insanity, we started retaining scars--that definitely didn't happen when I was killed by Lucina. There was also someone called Beth Yao there (clearly important, right?!) though I didn't hear about that until much later, from Setz. I guess people tried to take out Kite too, though that went as well as you can probably imagine it did--not at all! Ah well, we got him eventually... I missed a lot of things while I was kidnapped, but Noire told me later about how they all worked really hard to get to us, even creating tunnels back under the apartments! How heroic! Anyway, after that, we were able to get back safely. Haven Home Sweet Home?
Sliding Moral Scales — January - March —
Things were pretty smooth sailing for a little bit after that! Well, as smooth as anything gets in Haven. Smooth sailing in a tiny boat on a choppy ocean, maybe...? Well, anyway, after that, some ghosts showed up in the apartments where we were living, and they were suuuper mad! They even possessed some people... All because we'd managed to live longer than them! Rude, right? It wasn't so bad, but... then Father was killed by a possessed Eugeo... anyway, that doesn't matter now! Regardless, we were able to make amends with the ghosts, and in return, they gave us weapons! How handy! I guess we promised them that we would help them escape... as I found out from Oz later. That's toootally doable--right? Also, this is when I found out that there's a team floating about to try to kill Beth, not that that's a big surprise! It makes sense to take out such a big target...though I'm not sure we'd all survive a daring move like that. I also learned the date... February 14th, huh? I'd better keep careful track of that! Not long after that conversation, we were all dragged into these crazy tests! Mine was a Wisdom test, and we were all stuck in a labyrinth. When we answered everything correctly, we got these PASSED tattoos on our chests, but more importantly, there was food! ...Oh and I guess everyone else was tested too. There was Strength, Adaptability and Loyalty. Who knows why those four in particular were picked, but it sure worked out for me! I guess we hit capacity in the apartments sometime around then, because all of a sudden, the roof showed up! That was weird. There was a garden up there, full of evil plants. And I'm pretty sure that someone who fell off the edge of the roof ended up blind... Anyway, then Jessica showed up and got stabbed for her trouble by Judy--she was that nurse back in the hospital when we were kidnapped by Kite, though I think there might be clones of her. Regardless, I had to keep Zohra from doing something dumb thanks to her... I suppose that the people who were tortured by Dr. Kite have a susceptibility to weapons they have. That's juuuust great, right? I'm not sure what happened to Jessica--all I know is that she survived, but then she was killed later. I do know that we managed to capture and stop Judy, though I wonder what they did with her... either way, we kept her from doing something weird to the roof...for better or for worse. There were some nasty earthquakes, and then the plants started invading the apartments, and things started collapsing-- Okay, okay, I guess it was for the worst after all, ha ha!
Moving Time — April - June —
This was a pretty quiet time though! At least, for a few weeks it was. Then there was a huuuuge earthquake, and the school cracked to reveal a bunch of children's skeletons...a lot of them had been eating each other, too. Then people started being really paranoid, and acting like they had to get out, even though it wasn't that dangerous at all... and people started getting followed around by tiny versions of themselves! ...Really, really rude versions of themselves. I think some younger people were possessed, too...? It was bad, either way! There were ghosts there, after all. The ghosts of all of those children... and then they asked for us to give up everyone who had ever helped Yao, even the ones who were hypnotized or forced into it! That seems a little uncalled for, right? Well, we couldn't let everyone go, and in the end, they were pretty upset. So they wrecked everything. Honestly, some people! So the apartments were gone...and it was time for some camping, just like back home! I do feel a little bad for the ghosts of the children, but we couldn't give them who they really wanted, so it didn't make sense to sacrifice everyone else...right? Ah well, we had fun camping out, anyway. That was fun for a little while, until there was another broadcast. You'd think Yao would have better security, but I'm not complaining! It was definitely confirmation that we weren't supposed to last longer than a year, and that these experiments happen a lot...yuck! And then we all fell asleep, and when we woke up, we were in new housing! Apparently outside of the containment field, judging by the broadcast. That's where we're living now...not that I'm fond of it. The apartments were better, honestly. And it doesn't help that there were problems with moving. People started forgetting things, and having amnesia, and that's not good! I should know! They were really sick, too, and I personally felt like I was craving something really important that I didn't know I was missing...what have they been putting into our bodies to keep us inside the barrier? Then Su Geming showed up to try to make things better. With medicine! And doctors! ... It didn't make things better, mooostly because a bunch of people kidnapped the doctors and held them for metaphorical ransom, which was returned with frustrated acceptance, for the most part. I'm pretty sure Geming died after that. How unfortunate, to be in a position of power in an evil empire, am I right? Charles told me more about it later, but I still think that that was an interesting diversion! In exchange for all of that, we got some basic things that weren't necessities at all. Maybe we should have sent a better negotiator...Well, at least we learned that it's the year 2015...? Or at least, the coin with Dr. Kite's head on it was dated that way.
The Plot (or Fog) Thickens — July - September —
But by far the worst part of the torturing the doctors thing was that Dr. Kite took charge! He immediately made another crazy strong monster in the tunnels, which I heard was defeated later...It was really strong, so I'm glad for that. Either way, it's dead now, which is what matters. The guy he turned into a monster, though... I saw him later--in the jail. A bunch of people were kidnapped, including Morgan--my twin, not me. They were tortured, turned into horrible things and then unleashed on Haven, which was pretty terrible... And then in the end, Kite was a big jerk about it anyway! Who asked him, right? Right?! He killed one of the people here, who didn't revive--just like Shirley before. Oh, did I not mention that? I don't remember when it happened, but Shirley was killed and didn't revive, just like this... Oh, and we decided to get the van back too around this time. The van that used to be Al-- ...well, anyway, we decided to get it back! It was in Yomiel's hands, and he's Super Yao! ...Though it took us awhile to get there... Right, so! After that (but before the Great Van Retrieval), the ground caved in! It was this huuuge sinkhole, which is...actually still there. Yay? Down there, there were four corridors with various things. One had a door that we can't get through even now...made of gold and bones and metals and things. Another had a bunch of computers, that Hinata figured out change the weather! How neat is that?! Now we can have a sunny summer day whenever we want! And another one was a cave-in, but once everyone got through it, there was a garden through a barrier. It took some work to get through the barrier, especially for me and Charles. Seems like the longer we're here, the worse things are for us... Anyway, down the other tunnel was this weird statue in a box. I guess someone decided to use it, because the next thing I knew, I was in this weird place, and then a monster murdered me! But I learned later from Deadpool that it was to save Jessica, and they were successful, so I guess that's alright. When I was done being dead, Hinata and I threw a party anyway, so that cheered me riiiight up! Also, Cecil was a great source of information, wasn't he? I'm going to miss him and his purposeful blurting out of all of Yao's plans....but anyway! The fog came back, and you should know by now that that means Bad Things. This time, there were awful nightmares, and a bunch of people ended up burnt or disfigured in some way...But people also had weird memories! I wasn't able to talk to everyone, but from the sounds of things, they had something to do with Kite and Stefan's past... I wonder what they were? I wish I could have heard all of them... Ah well. Stefan said it was his fault, so he came to help seal away the fog. Everyone worked together to make this biiig box to seal the fog away, and now it's over by the church that other residents who aren't me made. Hopefully nobody tries to break that any time soon, because everything went back to normal then.
And Good Riddance — October - December —
Then things took a definite turn for the worse. We were all grabbed by Kite again, and stuck in a maze. He said that he was trying to figure out which of us is strong and which isn't, based on who killed someone else and got out of the maze...which is just not a measure of strength at all! Do you need a dictionary, Dr. Kite?! That aside, things started collapsing and tunnels started moving around, but far more importantly, there were clues to gather! Morgan and I were able to get alllll of them, with Cecil and Noire and Sonia's help, and I've got them all memorized now...It was a handy little message, at least. After that...well, Morgan and I were hardly going to kill someone to escape, and we had some troops to save, so we died. It was pretty awful. We weren't entirely dead, or something, because we experienced everything that happened after...and then we were branded with C's on our cheeks. People who murdered got nothing. And the I... I wonder what the I means? I'm not sure entirely--someone who killed someone but then was killed? Who knows! Anyway, we put the clues together, and decided to do something about it. Whenever the Uzumaki came. Which Alcor told me just means 'spiral'...? Have we really been fighting a geometric shape this entire time? It's sort of lacking in heroic oomph, don't you think? I guess we also blew things up. It was fun! I wonder if that will have any consequences later? Ha ha, probably! So after that, things got worse, like we kind of expected they would... I was kidnapped (again), this time in a prison. It wasn't so bad, at first. There were three square meals a day, at least! Everyone else was in a fake Haven, I guess, full of fake memories. That's not that important. I mean, it was to them, but I was sort of busy. Remember that guy? Yeah, that one! He showed up again. So I thiiiink there's some weird cloning thing going on for real. Not that it mattered much, since he and his friends were also sacrificed... Oh, right, I didn't explain that. Well, there were these sacrifices to the Uzumaki...they were gruesome. Kite was really crazy, huh... But then Jonas showed up to help us out! Or...we were there to help him out. I'm not entirely clear on the details. Um...he didn't make it out, I think, but...the rest of us did, for the most part. When Beast Boy and me and Morgan and the others came up with an escape plan, I mean. The escape even went off mostly without a hitch, incredibly! I'm so used to things going soooo wrong here, ha ha! I mean, then we were trapped in an eternal desert, but at least we got out of the prison! Anyway, the others came to save us, so that's what really matters. Things got a little crazy after that...Though I missed most of it, since I was finally setting off those raid plans. It went...not so great. We found storage, and I'll never forget what I saw... Ugh. Anyway, we all died there... but at least we wrecked their surveillance for awhile... When I met up with the other raid groups, we learned that Korra's group had come across a strange machine, and she had taken the stones from it. They were...odd, but I'm glad I didn't have them. They gave them to Stefan, I think. Either way, it became pretty obvious pretty quickly that the thing they destroyed was the revival machine--so I suppose now if we die, that's it, we're dead for good. In better news, so is Dr. Kite!
Kite Strikes Back — January - April —
Obviously, we all needed to recover from that a bit... things are going to change around here a lot, I think. A longstanding Haven resident died and didn't come back...we sure messed something up, huh? Jessica also came to live with us, though I haven't really ever talked to her. I should change that! Then things started to go wrong again. People looked like Risen, or were bleeding from old wounds. Did we...do this too, by messing up the machine? It's just too hard to believe that these effects could be a coincidence... Not that there was a lot of time to worry about that, because then it started to rain. And after that, there were the whirlpools. I thought we were done with these stupid spirals! I know I'm done with them! And Tony... ...Well, Tony died. For good. He was my friend, and I'll miss him...but I guess now we know--Kite's gone for good. Anyway, a little after that, Lante had this idea that if we could get to Haven North by the tunnels, there must be a way to get to it by the wastelands too! So we gave it a try, with Charles and Sebastian to help, but... ultimately, we didn't end up making it there. And I was beat after trying to run all the way to Haven North, whew! I guess we'll have to come up with a better way, but one thing's for sure--something's weird about either the tunnels or the wasteland. Or both! That was when the weird peacefulness we'd had came to an end, and the housing spiral fell through the ground! It was dark and gross and I'm sure people were preeeetty upset about it, but I'm not really sure, because then I disappeared for 23 days. Zohra kept count, isn't that nice of him? Anyway, Beast Boy caught me up on what I'd missed, which sounds like some pretty crazy memory sharing--which happens a lot here, so I can't say I'm surprised. The full story, as Beast Boy put it together, goes something like this. Interesting stuff! Oh, right, and I guess the well water had corpses in it? Gross. But then the Lake Lady fixed that, and also got rid of the Yao Cameras! So while she's not necessarily on our side, she's not against us either. This sure is turning into a proper war simulation, huh? Look at all of these sides! Also, when I got back, Morgan and I helped people find their true loves! That's definitely important and relevant!
Things Get Serious (?) — May - August —
Also, Sebastian's Big Book startled to crumble, which is no good. Looks like they're tired of us reading! I've read it before, but it'd be good to preserve it for the future--thankfully, Tuuri figured out a way to keep it all there...for now, anyway! Good job, new housemate! Wan also asked Morgan and me to help him organize a way to make the houses not in that deep, dark pit, so we agreed to give it a shot!

| ❝I don't know if anyone will ever hear this, or even if the disk will survive, but I have to try. Those poor trapped creatures deserve help. My name(1) is Harvey Lordson, and I am an employee of the Yao Corporation. Or, I was. They still think I am, but after today(2) I don't want anything to do with them any more. I know the Corporation has done a lot for the world after it was(3) devastated, and I know that a lot of good people work for them, but their ideas have become corrupted. It's not right to(4) take anyone or anything from their lives and treat them like test subjects. Their propaganda is a lie, these creatures aren't monsters(5)…Often, they’re as human as I am … I know it started as a way to research alternative methods of doing things, alternative fuel(6) sources, alternative medicines, alternative technology... but look what it's become. This lust for immortality has gone too far, and I'm afraid that Wei is(7) under the direct control of Philip Kite. I saw him in the lab with a child, just a tiny child, it was... I can't bear to call him doctor, he lost the right to that title a long(8) time ago. If I have a chance, I will go into the containment field and I will tell the captives everything I know(9) in the hopes that whoever finds it will carry on my legacy. Go to the containment field, they need to know. The way(10) out is through Haven Central. I know there's a building there which gives access right down into Haven Below, and to the centralized(11) convenience hub. I believe they've re-designed the lesser hubs as convenience stores, though that's only hearsay. There are so many defences, and I(12) don't know...how to get around them all, and I don't have time to get into theories. I've gone on too long--(13) I might be discovered any moment. | The Well Lady's Tale — 01/06/15 — |
❝Once upon a time, there was a spirit. Or a god. A demon. A protector. Something. It lived a long time ago. A long, long time. It watched the world form... civilizations grow and fall... animals evolve and become intelligent. It saw lots of things... and there were lots of things it loved. But then... it also saw that everything that was important or beautiful or worth saving never lasted. And that was sad. One day, people came. People came and they were different from what had lived before them. There was one person in particular - one person we all know who only cared about power and about controlling things that no one should ever try to control. And he saw the spirit and he wanted to control it and a power that it had protected. So it fought - it attacked so many people because it was better that they died, that mortals who lived such short lives anyway were destroyed than for this man to gain control of this power. It would mean the end of the world. Of many, many worlds. It killed so many people. And they were afraid. They were so afraid that when Yao finally succeeded in destroying this spirit, they cheered and they trusted and they believed them to be their saviors. And the spirit... They split it into pieces and shattered its soul. The girl, the crow, the light, and the lady in the well. It was incredibly painful. It was fragmented and it was forced to do terrible things, and now... it's been under their control for years and years and it's not sure anymore what it's like to be whole.❞
